Respiratory crud interfered with the fun planned for our annual Christmas date weekend before Christmas. We were hoping to add a little something special to their visit on New Year's Eve.
Even though we've lived in our community for over ten years, we've never made time for the local holiday lighting spectacle. Lots of good press and positive input from friends and neighbors made it a good choice for us to do with the girls, and New Year's Eve seemed a perfect time for the short trek.
Even though we were initially disappointed with the sparse displays, they turned out to be just the appetizers. A couple of slow, winding miles later, we were rewarded with too many incredible lighting displays to count. We were thrilled we'd brought our girls!
But the amazing lighting decorations weren't what flipped my switch.
The holiday songs in our car included, "Allie, look!" "Jamers, did you see that?" "Look at that, Honey Bunny!" "Look, lights, look, Allie!" What sweet music to my ears. But that wasn't what flipped my switch either.
Before we even left the park, the tune in the car changed from a chorus to a joyful duet. Annalyn, Gracie in her car seat, and I were pretty cozy in the back seat. Not too cozy, though, for a little horseplay.
A tiny tickle, followed by a little chuckle. Soon the air was filled with ballyhoo and belly laughs. The light show was only the opening act for the big event that flipped my switch and lit up my heart in the darkened car.
On Wednesday I will be linking this post to Giving Up on Perfect and Coffee for Your Heart.
