I was not a James Bond fan until this guy jumped into the role. I've been drooling over Pierce Brosnan since he hit the little screen in "Manions of America" in 1981. Tom's pretty funny: when there's a James Bond marathon, he alerts me when my favorite "hot stuff" will be headlining.
Like last weekend. It's been busier than usual around our house lately. After church and a few errands, Tom settled in with the Sunday paper and 007's adventures.
As I did little things around the house, I thought about how James Bond doesn't have anything on my own James, James Thomas, that is. Let's take a look.
And of course, what 007 movie would be complete without someone to bring a twinkle to our hero's eyes? Tom isn't what you'd call a ladies' man, although I did have to fight off several girls for his attention when we were dating. I've never been a Hallee Berry or Teri Hatcher, so I'm especially thankful Tom knows how to make me feel special.
I've been thinking about gifts a lot lately, people gifts, not the ones that come in pretty packages. Tom's gifts of responsibility, creativity, and kindness are exactly what I need to keep me in balance. Isn't it amazing how God blesses each one of us with gifts to bless others?
"6 We all have different gifts. Each gift came because of the grace God gave us. Whoever has the gift of prophecy should use that gift in a way that fits the kind of faith they have. 7 Whoever has the gift of serving should serve. Whoever has the gift of teaching should teach. 8 Whoever has the gift of comforting others should do that. Whoever has the gift of giving to help others should give generously. Whoever has the gift of leading should work hard at it. Whoever has the gift of showing kindness to others should do it gladly." (Romans 12:6-8)
And God apparently doesn't believe in throwing in the towel. It doesn't matter how badly we may think we've blown it, and are willing to give up on our gifts, God doesn't give up on us: "For God’s gifts and his call can never be withdrawn; he will never go back on his promises." (Romans 12:29 TLB)
What kind of gifts is someone in your world blessing you with? What gifts are you using to bless others? I hope there's someone in your world that you can say, "James Bond doesn't have anything on him/her!"
