When my brother and I were in primary school, I was mortified one week that Mama had only one nickel for the two of us to put into the Sunday School offering. Was it pride in my six year old heart, or longing to give more?
Lord, I didn't ask for this job, you know. I was out there watching sheep, minding my own business. Are you sure I'm the right guy for the job? Public speaking definitely isn't on my resume.
1 Listen to this, Israel. God is calling you to account—and I mean all of you, everyone connected with the family that he delivered out of Egypt. Listen!
Are you a foot person, Dear Reader? Are pedis regularly in your schedule and budget? May I tell you a secret? I'm really jealous of your sassy red toenails that look oh so cute in sandals or peek-a-boo shoes.
For years I was embarrassed by my size 10 feet. An adult friend and I were chatting about fashions, etc, when I mentioned my embarrassing feet. Judy looked at my feet, then right at me, and said, "You're nearly six feet tall. You'd fall over in size six shoes!"
"God, how long do I have to cry out for help before you listen? How many times do I have to yell, “Help! Murder! Police!” before you come to the rescue?
Why do you force me to look at evil, stare trouble in the face day after day?"
Habakkuk 1: 1-3a CEV
Look and be amazed at what’s happening among the nations! Even if you were told, you would never believe
Lord, we have totally screwed up, all of us. What a mess we've made of things!
12 That is why the Lord says, “Turn to me now, while there is time. Give me all your hearts. Come with fasting, weeping, mourning. 13 Let your remorse tear at your hearts and not your garments.” Return to the Lord your God, for he is gracious and merciful. He is not easily angered; he is full of kindness and anxious not to punish you.
Lord, did I hear you right? Do you have any idea what my family, my friends will say if I marry her?
What have I done that you would punish me so?
“Go, marry a prostitute who has had children as a result of her prostitution. Do this because the people in this country have acted like prostitutes—they have been unfaithful to the Lord.”
Last week, Dear Reader, I told you that transparency is a challenge for me. Okay, not exactly a challenge, more like downright hard. Committing to weekly updates on Jubilee's progress has forced me out of my hermit's cave.
Well, here goes.
Dear Reader, how many ways have you helped others this week? In what ways have others helped you?Personally, I think the cycle of service is one of the greatest blessings in life.
You may recall that I consider our daughter, Mary, to be my publishing/platform mentor. A year ago last winter, Mary began encouraging me to get involved in writing organizations.
Last May, Mary and I went to a regional writers' conference. Since it was in the Rockies, Tom and the granddaughters went along for the scenery. I was thrilled to go, especially with Mary. It was a step in the right direction, but a baby step at best.
What are your plans for this summer, Dear Reader? An exciting foreign city? Home improvements? Perhaps taking a class or two. Maybe it's a "staycation". Whatever it is, I think Jesus wants us to take Him along.
He said to them, “Go everywhere in the world. Tell the Good News to everyone.
Two weeks ago I had my knee replaced. Way back in December, when I scheduled the surgery, my surgeon said to plan on taking the summer for rehab. So, here I am, reflecting from my rehab room.
Dear Reader, thanks for beginning the journey to publication with Jubilee and me! Shall we start at the beginning?
A year before Life with Bobby and Bonnie was published, Jubilee and the Stinky Fish was already in my writing womb. My second book was already beginning to take seed before the first was published, I just didn't know it.
During back to school professional development that year, our principal said we were to have a block of time at least four days a week for our students to write. Honestly, I think I saw light bulbs above some of my colleagues' heads.
