My friend, LuAnn serves these children every week. She's already been teaching them the most important language of all. Those faces told me they are quick studies in the language of love.
These very wise children were teaching me that tone and touch and tenderness speak loud and clear. They were both patient and fluent with their instruction.
Daniel, the smiling boy in the blue shirt, may have a calling to the ministry. He joyfully shared with me that Jesus helps us do the right thing, and he likes doing the right thing for Jesus. There was absolutely no better message that I could share with him.
Karen went door to door with me passing out flyers for our Kids Club meeting. She was my interpreter with apprehensive adults.
Karen was also in charge of recruitment and outreach. While the adults were doing what we thought needed to be done, Karen went and chased kids from between the apartment buildings and the parking lot to where we were hanging out. Then she kept calling until they came.
Karen wasn't satisfied with one book. After she got her book and rounded up more kids, she came back for another one. Her teacher needed one because she has two little kids. Karen came back again, this time for her best friend, Dionne. While I was giving her books, she was giving me lessons in outreach.
Did I need an interpreter? A resounding no! The children were multi-linguists in the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23). I pray I am as good of a student as they were as teachers.
