Did you grow up on stories of the Great Depression and World War II? My sister, brother, and I did.
One of things I am most proud of Daddy for is that he didn't wait to enlist in the Army until after the attack on Pearl Harbor. Along with many others, Daddy had watched the signs of war. He enlisted on September 8, 1941.
I continue to long for the people I once held most dear. Our child who didn't live long enough to grin and giggle at holiday delights. My brother who won't hold his granddaughter on her first Christmas, or any other time.
Let's face it, Advent and Christmas can be hard times of year. Let us ask the Child of Bethlehem to help us focus more on the joy He offers, than the loss that tugs at us.
Precious in the sight of the Lord
is the death of his saints.
Psalm 116:15 SV
As we wait for the time of unending peace, let us offer prayers of thanksgiving for the men and women who have chosen sacrifice in exchange for our rights and safety.
